Nawaf Shukralla, Bahrain’s first football referee to run a World Cup match, was given a special welcome on return from Doha after a successful surgery at Aspetar sports medicine hospital.
The 40-year-old international referee suffered an ankle injury and a surgery was done to ensure prompt return to his career, with his next major challenge being the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and other high-ranking football officials in Bahrain welcomed Shukralla on return.
Shukralla’s first World Cup appearance was in the 2014 edition in Brazil.
He also managed other top regional, continental and international football competitions over the past 10 years, including the AFC Champions League, 2012 Fifa Club World Cup, and 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
