PIANIST Haiwei Li hit the right keys to win this year’s annual British Schools of the Middle East Young Musicians of the Gulf competition last night.
The 13-year-old student of the British School of Kuwait beat six other musicians in the grand finale which was held at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa Hotel.
British Ambassador Simon Martin presented Li with a trophy, as well as a lifetime award in the bowed string category.
Li’s winning performance were Fantasia in D Minor and Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix by Wang Jing-Zhong.
Isabel Snaas, 18, from Dubai College retained her runner-up title this year at the 18th edition of the competition hosted by St Christopher’s School.
She received an award from the US embassy chargé de affairs Aimee Cutrona.
Ms Snaas also won the female vocal award.
