A YOUNG Bahraini singing sensation whose music videos have been watched tens of millions of times performed to an audience of thousands in Dubai yesterday.
Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School student Hala Al Turk rose to prominence in 2011 when she was selected for Arabs Got Talent – and her latest single Live In The Moment has more than 24 million hits on YouTube.
Modesh World in Dubai World Trade Centre played host to her latest concert yesterday, with at least 10,000 tickets sold.
“Hala is doing more and more these days,” proud father Mohammad Al Turk told the GDN.
“This year she has already performed 20 times and this performance in Dubai is the biggest so far.
“Then, on UAE National Day, she will be giving an even bigger performance with some other very big stars.”
According to Mr Al Turk, Hala has been recognised by YouTube as the 55th most popular personality on the website.
“Hala has gone worldwide,” he said.
“She is the only Arab to ever achieve such a rating.
“An award will be presented to her at the end of the year.
“For her seven songs she has more than 900 million views, which is why she is getting the award but we plan to break a billion by the end of the year.
“Her next song Why Are You Afraid is being done with some big names in the Western world at the level of people like Lady Gaga and I expect it to be a hit.”
Mr Al Turk said that he was planning to take Hala, who sang three of her seven hit songs in Dubai yesterday, to play in more European and US venues in the future.
“She is not just my daughter but a daughter of Bahrain,” he said.
“We need to achieve one billion views, but once we do that you will see the daughter of Bahrain put the country on the map in a new way.”
