A 70-year-old man from Saudi Arabia has come under fire on social media for marrying the sister of his son’s bride.
The story that led up to the wedding is as convoluted as a movie plot.
According to reports in the Saudi daily 'Okaz', the man went to Al Qunfudha, to the home of the second bride of his son to call off the engagement, instead he ended up blessing the wedding and asking to marry the bride’s sister.
This was the son’s second wedding and he had been criticised by his first wife and mother for wanting to take another wife.
The first wife threatened to divorce him, his mother and father supported the wife and threatened to disown him if he went ahead with the engagement.
The son insisted that he was in love with the woman and wanted to marry her.
But his family was against the engagement and the father was persuaded to go the second family’s house, apologise to them and break off the engagement.
The father relented and went to meet the family. Once he reached there, he was seated in the living room and served refreshments.
It was here that he spotted the bride’s sister and changed his mind about the son’s wedding.
The sister was just 30-years-old and divorced.
The septuagenarian was so enamoured by the sister that he instantly changed his position and said that he had come to finalise his son’s wedding. he also added that he wanted to marry the bride’s sister.
The women’s father said that he agreed to the request.
His decision has been severely criticised on social media says the report in ‘Okaz’ adding that a blogger writing under the name P71 has said,“Usually when a man reaches 50, he eases into a simpler life where religion and compassion have a more significant role. The man becomes more pious and tries to provide for his wife all the things she has missed. Unfortunately, this man seems to be obsessed with other things, moving away from his wife for a younger woman. This is totally unfair and purely egoistic of this old man.”
