INDONESIA and Pacific Oceania won promotion yesterday to Group I of the Asia/Oceania zone in the 2019 Fed Cup.
Indonesia clinched their berth with a 3-0 win over Uzbekistan while Pacific Oceania qualified following a 2-1 victory over Singapore.
Both were the final matches of Group II at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) general secretary Fuad Al Rowaie and other BTF officials presented the trophies to the top two teams.
In Indonesia’s victory, Aldila Sutjiadi defeated Akgul Amanmuradova 6-2, 6-2. Beatrice Gumulya followed suit with a win against Sabina Sharipova.

Deria Nur Haliza teamed up with Jessy Rompies for a hard-earned 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over the Uzbek duo of Nigina Abduraimovak and Yasmina Karimjanova.
In the other match, Singapore’s Charmaine Shi Yi Seah beat Pacific Oceania’s Steffi Carruthers 6-4, 6-4.
But Pacific Oceania hit back as Abigail Tere-Apisah scored a hard-earned 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Stefanie Tan while Carruthers and Tere-Apisah cruised past Singapore’s Yi Seah and Tan 6-1, 6-1 to seal promotion.
Uzbekistan and Singapore were classified third and fourth.
