Mahonia, Bahrain’s first fine dining degustation restaurant, announced its opening in Adliya. Leading the way to a new era of fine dining with its gastronomic degustation menu concept, it is distinctively different from anything else in Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf, a press release stated.
Three times Michelin-starred executive chef Herve Pronzato spent over a year developing the menu, designing and perfecting Mahonia’s offering. With only seven tables, the restaurant delivers an authentic epicurean journey with a choice of a 16-course or 7-course degustation menu with exclusive beverage pairings. In addition, an exquisitely planned à la carte menu will be soon introduced, increasing the choice of delectable dishes available for food connoisseurs.
Owner Sawsan Baluch explains her inspiration for Mahonia: “During my culinary travels in Europe and elsewhere, I realised that Bahrain is missing a true degustation restaurant. I also realised that Bahrain is not short of appreciative gourmet lovers wanting to expand their palates, but there was no place for them in the kingdom. I was driven to change that and introduce true gastronomy to Bahrain by creating Mahonia.”
Chef Herve’s brigade of 40 chefs create each dish as if it were a priceless work of art. Perfectly presented in imaginative tableware, each dish is prepared with the best ingredients utilising the finest European gastronomic techniques.
From Japanese Kobe beef to French quail eggs, no expense is spared sourcing the best, rarest and most special ingredients, the release added. Mahonia prepares many ingredients in-house, from cured and smoked meats to cheeses, butters, breads and even micro-greens.
There is a cigar lounge that offers an array of cigars to accompany the beverages selected by the expert sommeliers. An assortment of gastronomic snacks designed to complement Mahonia’s cocktails feature on the menu of the lounge.
Chic Bohemian chandeliers hang from above, illuminating the restaurant decorated with bespoke furniture. Carefully curated original artworks adorn the walls and flawless Murano sculptures and Baccarat vases add to the décor.
The degustation menu concept originates from France. Degustation, or tasting, means the careful, appreciative savouring of various foods, focusing on all senses, high culinary art, appreciation of ingredients and the chef’s technical skills, and enjoying food with good company.
