It follows author Remy, whose debut novel based on her three best friends becomes an instant bestseller, paving the way for a follow-up.
However, just as Remy’s creative inspiration seems to leave her, so do her friends – one moves to New York, another gets pregnant, and the third gets back together with her ‘awful’ boyfriend.
This leaves Remy feeling deeply lonely and unable to find her next book idea, until she bumps into Simone at a bookshop.
Simone, a successful kindergarten teacher, is guarded and prickly, while Remy is insecure and heartbroken. Yet, they each might be just the missing piece that the other has been searching for.

In a refreshing take, Jessica explores the importance of female friendships and the life-changing power of platonic love in this latest release. The author, who was born and raised in London to Ghanaian parents, studied English Literature at Sheffield University.
“I truly hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it,” she said in a social media post.
“One of my favourite parts of this book is the Acknowledgements, which is my own mini love letter to the wonderful women I get to call my friends,” she added.
Jessica’s debut novel Maame (pronounced ma-meh), which released in 2023, became a New York Times best seller. Drawing from her reflections after losing her father to Parkinson’s disease in 2020, it received many accolades, including an Alex Award and a Diverse Book Award in 2024.
