The movie follows Anna (Halle Bailey), a young woman navigating life after losing her mother.
After a chance encounter with handsome Italian Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor), she plans to crash at his Tuscany villa without his permission.
However, things become complicated when she sparks up a romance with Matteo’s cousin, Michael (Regé-Jean Page), after telling Matteo’s family that she’s engaged to him.
“We could all use a little bit of throwing caution to the wind, stepping outside the comfort zone and doing something that makes no sense at all,” producer Will Packer said, explaining the film’s aspirational tone in an interview.
“I just think that ultimately one of the reasons you go to the movies is for people to do things that seem preposterous and absurd, but for it to all work out because we dream that that could happen for us. And I’m somebody who believes that it could happen for us,” he added.
Will explained why the world needs a rom-com like this right now.
“If I have a secret to my success, it really is listening to audiences. It’s listening to real people; they will tell you what they’re looking for and what they want. I have often heard, ‘Where’s our rom-com? Where’s our Eat, Pray, Love? Where’s something for this generation?’.
“I personally love a rom-com. I think audiences are missing that. That’s something we don’t have enough of right now, especially in the theatrical experience,” he added.
