The Austrian teenage girl who tried to flee Syria has been reportedly beaten to death in the ISIS stronghold in Raqqa, Syria.
Samra Kesinovic, 15, and Sabina Selimovic, 17, both Bosnian, left their homes in 2014 and left a note to their families: “Don’t look for us. We will serve Allah and we will die for him.”
They travelled to Syria via Turkey and were allegedly brainwashed by Bosnian preacher Ebu Tejma in Vienna, which he denies.
Overnight they became 'poster girl' for ISIS as they appeared on social media website covered in burqas and showed them carrying Kalashnikovs surrounded by men.
Reportedly one of the girls was killed during a fight in Syria.
A Tunisian woman who had joined ISIS had reportedly stayed with the girls.
She managed to escape and returned home was quoted in many news reports saying the girls wanted to flee Raqqa but were caught and beaten to death.
Last year David Scharia, of the United Nations Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTED) had said, "We received information just recently about two 15-year-old girls, of Bosnian origin, who left Austria, where they had been living in recent years; and everyone, the families and the intelligence services of the two countries, is looking for them."
"Both were recruited by Islamic State."
"One was killed in the fighting in Syria, the other has disappeared."
Foreign Ministry spokesman Thomas Schnöll told the Austria Press Agency, "We cannot comment on individual cases."
