Riyadh - The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) called parents to protect their children against online gaming addition and electronic blackmailing.
A group of internet specialists and cyber crime experts had warned about online threats, calling on the authorities to ban “Momo Challenge” for its potential danger on children.
The controversial social media game, which has been circulating online and via WhatsApp, allegedly incites kids on completing a series of challenges which may push them, to the brink of suicide.
The 'Momo Challenge', which is often compared to the the 'Blue Whale' game which made headlines in 2018, was reportedly linked to a number of suicide cases.
The regulatory authority announced that it would receive complaints, queries and notifications round o’clock announcing that immediate measures would be taken against platforms circulating the 'Momo Challenge'.
It said that it would ban the controversial “Momo Challenge” through the operators working in the UAE in case of violations the regulations governing the internet use.
The authority urged parents to undertake the necessary preventive measures and control the internet content watched by children through adequate applications.
