Dubai: Dubai Municipality has shut down 84 food-selling outlets over the third quarter of this year for breach of health and hygienic standards and regulations.
A total of 14,234 food companies and outlets operate in Dubai.
Food Inspection Department Chief Sultan Ali Al-Taher said that the sanctioned companies and outlets were given an opportunity to regulate their situation and meet required standards, reported Arabic daily Al Bayan.
Ali Al-Taher pointed out a drop in the number of food-related violations and closure orders in the last few months.
Health inspection authorities have ranked 491 food companies and selling outlets as “Excellent”, while 4,751 others were rated “Very Good” and 1142 as “Acceptable”. Inspections have also evaluated 81 food outlets as “Weak” and required improvements to meet the required standards.
