Dubai: Rising numbers of accidents caused by hoverboard has alarmed the authorities in the United Arab Emirates.
In a fresh incident, an 8-year-old Russian boy died while riding on the scooter, when he collided with a vehicle, reported Emirates 24/7.
Director General of Dubai Traffic Police Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei warned residents about the risks of using the self-balancing unicycle scooter - hoverboard - on public roads.
There has been recommendations to confiscate such devices if used on public roads, streets and open spaces.
A traffic campaign is likely to be launched soon across the UAE to raise awareness about the dangers of using such devices.
Several airlines in the Gulf states have banned the carriage of hoverboards as checked-in luggage or as cabin baggage. Also, malls in Dubai have banned the use of the electric scooters and have posters informing shoppers of the risks involved.
