A batch of 15 Bahraini nationals is set to start their careers in fish farming.
They have graduated with a degree in pisciculture after completing a training programme to hone their fish farming skills and help them launch their projects.
The ceremony was attended by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf, Under-Secretary for Agriculture and Marine Resouces Dr Nabil Abul Fateh and other officials.
The graduates took part in a national programme supported by Tamkeen to train Bahrainis on fish farming techniques.
The minister stressed the importance of fish farming, highlighting the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to develop the sector as part of efforts to achieve sustainable food security.
“The fish farming strategy will play a key role in developing the sector over the coming five years,” he said, stressing the importance of exerting all efforts to remove obstacles and help set up new fish farms.
Chief executive Dr Ibrahim Janahi stressed Tamkeen’s keenness to support initiatives which contribute to developing the national economy and providing opportunities for trained Bahrainis to launch their own businesses.
He praised co-operation with the ministry and its agriculture and marine resources department to create opportunities for Bahrainis in the sector.
