Abu: A local court in Abu Dhabi ordered a sports fan to pay AED25,000 for slandering a football club.
The Abu Dhabi Misdemeanors' court convicted the man of posting abusive comments over the social networking website 'Twitter' against the sports club and fined him AED250,000 apart from ordering him to pay judicial fees.
The sports club filed a lawsuit with the Public Prosecution after the defendant posted inflammatory comments mocking the team, management, staff, players and fans, reported local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
The accused admitted in court that he had posted those tweets but denied he had intended to offend the club.
