Work on the complex for people with physical disabilities in A’ali is nearing completion.
Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan inspected the progress. It’s almost 90 per cent complete.
The milestone, being constructed on land covering 20,105 square metres, is expected to be opened this year.
It will have the capacity to accommodate 1,500 people, in addition to 160 administrative employees in the main headquarters.
The complex features 10 main buildings – including the Abdullah bin Ali Kanoo Diagnosis and Disability Evaluation Centre, a learning resource centre, an autism rehabilitation centre, a daycare rehabilitation centre, a physical fitness and sports centre for the disabled and an expo showcasing products.
The overall project costing BD8.680 million is being financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development under the Gulf Development Programme.
The project’s design has taken into account all the requirements of people with special needs. The location has a number of access points on the roads network, bus stops, parking spaces designed for disabled, visitors, administrative, education and medical staff.
