DUBAI: The UAE reported the country’s first deaths due to the coronavirus, two men, a 78-year-old Arab and a 58-year-old Asian, the health ministry said early this morning.
The UAE also suspended entry of GCC citizens until the approval of the pre-examination mechanism, starting at midnight tonight, Wam said.
Several Arab countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Jordan imposed lockdowns to prevent the spread of the virus, Saudi suspended domestic flights, public transport and suspended Uber services after reporting 70 new cases in 24 hours.
Elsewhere, Italy imposed draconian restrictions on public life after the death toll leapt by 627 in a single day, by far the biggest 24-hour rise recorded anywhere.
