Bahrain: A MOVING tribute to the late legendary Bahraini composer Majeed Marhoon premiered at the Cultural Hall last night.
The ‘Symphonies of the Self’ featured Mr Marhoon’s music for the first time on stage since his death in 2010.
The concert, spearheaded by Bahraini musicians Hasan Hujairi and Esam Hammad, was produced under the umbrella of the Red Bull Music Academy and held under the patronage of the Bahrain Authority of Culture and Antiquities.
The show featured performances of Marhoon’s compositions by the Bahrain National Orchestra, with a song performed by Salman Zaiman, the founder of Ajrass band, along with electronic reinterpretations of Mr Marhoon’s works performed through a unique collaboration of musicians, including Mr Hujairi, Mr Hammad and international electronic artists Henrik Schwarz and Bugge Wasseltoft, who have come together specially for this project.
Music enthusiasts who once knew Mr Marhoon, and even those only just introduced to his music, were moved by this melodic journey.
“It was such an intense experience, and I wish we could have more of this in our lives and Bahrain.
“I want to come back tomorrow and share this with my family,” said one audience member.
The concert, which is being held as part of this year’s Spring of Culture festival, continues tonight.
