MY letter will be a little harsh on the words, but I am sure that my words are the words of a lot of people currently facing this problem in most of the residential areas across Bahrain.
During these hard times of Covid-19, I would like to bring to the notice of the government our dilemma. We are struggling to make a living and save on expenses but the parking meters are burning a hole in our pockets!
The meters are illogical with their timings and tough on the people living in the residential areas. Even the policemen make sure they come and post a fine at exactly 7.01am when probably half the white-collar community is sleeping as they wake up for jobs at 8am or 8.30am to resume their duties. The meters stop taking coins at 7pm.
What about the people who reach home after 7pm and have work at 9am in the morning? They sleep fully aware that they would be fined, while there is no parking space left on the streets.
I would suggest making the meters 24 hours a day so that they accept coins and print receipts even after 7pm or at least start posting fines after 10am. We don’t mind paying the parking fees, but the timing should be logical. Not every employee is a government employee and that should be taken into consideration.
I don’t want to be disrespectful, but the department is making our lives difficult as we don’t have anywhere else to park in Manama.
