THOSE aged 60 and above wishing to take the Sputnik Covid-19 vaccine can now simply drop by the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC) to receive it.
National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19 member Dr Jameela Al Salman said, in a statement yesterday, that those opting for the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm can get the injection at their respective health centres, while those who choose the Russian offering should go to the BIECC.
“Pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, cancer, obesity, immunosuppressive diseases, and those over 60 can now go to take a vaccination for their safety, after following up with their doctor,” said Dr Al Salman, who is also infectious and internal diseases consultant at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
She stressed the need to be cautious even after inoculation.
“This is to give the highest degree of immunity to the entire community and to contribute to preventing the transmission of the virus,” added Dr Salman.
“All eligible people should take a vaccine. Those who have recovered from Covid-19 can receive it after 90 days from the date of infection,” she said, adding that vaccination was optional but hugely important to tackle the increasing number of cases recently.
