I AM a Bahraini citizen of Indian origin and came to Mumbai in August 2020 following the deaths of two of my family members.
My wife and I were supposed to visit Dubai on March 30, 2021 to visit my elder brother who was seriously ill in hospital with coronavirus infection.
However, both our tests for Covid-19 turned out positive. My wife was treated at home while I was admitted to a private hospital in Khandivali East.
To my surprise the hospital was full of Covid-19 patients. There was no place in any of the wards. Even the intensive care unit and operation theatre were taken over by Covid-19 patients.
I was admitted for nine days, and after the completion of my treatment, I was discharged from the hospital.
The building where I stay has been sealed by the Mumbai Municipality due to a large number of coronavirus cases.
All shops are closed and there is a strict lockdown; throughout the day we can hear ambulance sirens.
There is a situation of panic in Mumbai; nobody wants to go out of the house.
In fact, we don’t want to stay in Mumbai; we are scared. We took our first dose of the vaccine on March 18 and our second dose is due before May 5.
If allowed by Bahrain health authorities we would like to take our second dose in Bahrain.
Our request to people in Bahrain wanting to travel to Mumbai is: Please stay safe in Bahrain.
Mumbai has been badly affected by Covid-19. Everywhere, the hospitals are full. The government is setting up makeshift hospitals to take in the rising number of coronavirus patients.
