THE Capital Trustees Board has done well by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) to undertake periodic maintenance work at the Andalus Park and the Water Garden.
I consider this a master stroke and a step in the right direction for sustainable quality projects that benefit citizens and residents and comes within the framework of a policy of social responsibility towards Bahraini society.
This is only a drop in the ocean for the company’s continuous contribution to development programmes and projects since its inception in 1929.
The company has also chipped in towards the development and qualification of Bahrainis who now hold high and sensitive positions.
The most important thing here is Bapco’s prominent role in supporting Bahrain’s general budget through its work in oil exploration and refining as well as natural gas. The company’s management should be appreciated for their efforts and hard work.
The head of the public relations and media committee at the council said these qualitative and sustainable initiatives come within its framework to preserve the environment, increase the green area, clean the coasts, and other developmental and environmental projects.
This step will be very successful and, hopefully, spread to all of Bahrain’s areas and other municipalities will follow in implementing development projects in co-operation with the private sector.
Based on previous experiences, everyone agrees that the government has made huge efforts to set up recreational projects, parks and walking tracks, and allocates a huge budget for them, but unfortunately these lack regular maintenance and general cleanliness.
It is, therefore, necessary to put in place such arrangements for any new project with the aim of preserving it to be a sustainable community service project.
