LABOUR and Social Development Ministry has filed a case against G P Zachariades (GPZ) Civil Engineering and Contractors for failing to settle the wages of 18 expat workers.
The ministry, in a statement to the GDN, said that it had taken “all possible measures” to ensure workers received their full entitlements and rights from the employer.
The ministry said it was also following up and communicating with workers’ representatives to ensure they are provided with their basic needs and healthcare requirements.
“Several meetings were organised by the ministry, involving representatives of the employer and workers, which resulted in handing over the full dues to 32 workers, who later left for their countries,” said the statement.
“A total of 18 workers remained in the accommodation provided by the employer, and they received part of their dues, but not the complete entitlement.
“The ministry has issued a violation report against the employer over its failure to settle the wages of 18 expat workers.
“The report was taken to the Public Prosecution for necessary procedures.”
Meanwhile, a lawyer has been appointed to follow up the case of workers who have not received all their dues, the ministry said.
“All workers currently staying at the accommodation will be leaving to their countries within the coming few days.
“The imposed fees for quarantine in the workers’ countries have also been covered.”
