His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister, has extended his condolences to the family of Corporal Ammar Ebrahim Isa.
Corporal Ammar was killed when his patrol vessel was rammed by a boat attempting to flee the scene after it was warned by officers to stop over a suspected violation of a shrimping ban.
Mr Ammar, a resident of Busaiteen, was the captain of the vessel. Two of his colleagues were also injured in the attack.
The Crown Prince Prime Minister issued directives, instructing all parties concerned to take swift legal action against those responsible.
He also wished the injured a quick and full recovery.
HRH Prince Salman affirmed that illegal fishing depletes marine stocks, disrupts marine habitats, disrupts the labour market by exploiting unlicensed labour, and undercuts honest fishing communities.
He underlined that criminal activity goes beyond the act of illegal fishing but also includes those who purchase illegally caught seafood from unsustainable and illegally sourced stocks.
HRH Prince Salman stressed that the safety of citizens and residents and the preservation of the marine environment and natural resources is an ongoing national priority, and that any encroachment on this cannot be overlooked.
He also directed the Interior Ministry and the Royal Fund for Fallen Servicemen to immediately support the families of Corporal Ammar and those who were injured.
He noted that the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel “are our badge of honour and remain a source of national pride”.
The Interior Ministry said four Asian had been arrested.
