Manama: A tough warning has gone out to hotel and tourism establishments after one of them was found to have violated a ban on gatherings.
A hotel in Muharraq will face legal action for breaching rules put in place to combat the spread of Covid-19, the Public Health Directorate at the Health Ministry said yesterday.
The facility hosted an event with 15 people in a room while one more accommodated 19 individuals.
The violations were uncovered as the directorate’s inspectors raided the facility yesterday, in co-ordination with the Interior Ministry and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority.
Authorities have taken necessary measures as the facility violated the Public Health Law and a ministerial decision on Covid-19 curbs, the directorate said in a statement.
It will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
All tourism and hotel facilities have been banned from holding gatherings, celebrations, weddings or conferences at their halls, restaurants or other premises until further notice.
Bahrain has announced a partial closure of retail trade outlets and services involving customers until July 2 as part of efforts to combat the spread of the virus.
The BTEA yesterday said individuals and institutions should not drop their guard against the coronavirus as the battle is far from over.
Citizens and residents must stop being reckless and co-operate with the authorities to ensure the success of national efforts to confront the pandemic, it added.
Meanwhile, 233 restaurants and cafes were raided on Thursday of which 31 were referred to the Public Prosecution for Covid-19 violations.
The GDN yesterday reported that health inspectors fined more than 1,000 restaurants and cafes and shut down 16 between May 27 and June 25 for flouting regulations.
While some of them allowed unvaccinated people and those without the green shield to enter their premises, a few others served food inside the facility and lacked hand sanitisers and thermometers.
Salons, spas and barber shops have also been shut down in a series of raids.
Bahrain has been witnessing a steady fall in Covid-19 infections during the last two weeks with the test positivity rate dropping to 2.20 per cent yesterday – the lowest in the last four months.
Number of infections also dropped to 288 yesterday after hitting a high of 3,274 on May 29 – indicating the success of pre-emptive measures put in place by the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus early this month.
