THREE teenage gaming addicts who re-enacted scenes from a popular video game by breaking into properties and stealing motorcycles, have been jailed.
The Bahrainis, aged 15, 16 and 17, appeared at the Lower Criminal Court yesterday which found them guilty of theft.
Each of them was sentenced to 18 months in jail in connection with three incidents of break-ins.
“The defendants confessed to the charges,” read the court ruling.
A defence lawyer, representing the schoolboys, previously requested that they be acquitted as they had been addicted to Grand Theft Auto, which he claimed had influenced them into copying the actions of the protagonist of the game in real life.
He said he will lodge an appeal against the ruling at the High Criminal Appeals Court.
Grand Theft Auto V is the latest edition of an action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.
