A WOMAN allegedly stole her former husband’s vehicle and fled to Saudi Arabia, a court heard.
The 35-year-old Saudi appeared at the Lower Criminal Court and denied forgery and theft.
Lawyer Lulwa Al Kaabi filed a case on behalf of the 40-year-old Bahraini victim in the court.
She said that the woman fled Bahrain in January via King Fahad Causeway, claiming her husband did not provide her with sufficient “freedom”.
The lawyer described how the defendant drove her ex-husband’s Hyundai Sonata, leaving her two sons, aged four and six, behind – before returning to Bahrain months later and filing a case at the Sunni Sharia Court requesting their custody.
“My client was married to the Saudi woman for seven years,” she told the GDN.
“She claimed that she did not get enough freedom and ended up taking his vehicle and fleeing in January.
“She forged a paper with my client’s signature saying that he was allowing her to drive his vehicle to Saudi Arabia.
“She did not say that he mistreated her but only that he did not give her enough freedom.”
She said that her client had suffered great psychological trauma.
“She took his car and stayed in Saudi for six months.
“She then returned to Bahrain and filed a case requesting custody of her children.
“This has caused great psychological trauma to my client.
“She stole his vehicle and forged his signature to be able to flee to Saudi Arabia.”
The woman was previously released on BD500 bail.
The trial has been adjourned until Wednesday for a ruling.
