Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa met Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group chairman Khalid Mohamed Kanoo and discussed plans to set up a museum named after the Kanoo family.
The meeting, at the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Tower in Manama, was also attended by vice chairman Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo and other board members and Baca officials.
The museum will be housed in the company’s headquarters in the iconic Manama Suq.
The building, which dates back to the early 1960s, will be conserved to reflect the pioneering Kanoo family’s long-standing heritage and preserve Manama’s features.
Mr Khalid Mohamed Kanoo said the museum will document the history of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group spanning more than 130 years and embody the family’s values. “We are happy to dedicate this building to serve as a new centre for knowledge and historical culture,” he said.
The museum will consolidate Baca’s efforts to include Manama on the Unesco list of world heritage sites as a symbol of coexistence and peace.
