I REFER to the article, ‘Push to boost e-services’(GDN, November 4).
While this development of using electronic technology is a natural progression in development, as we no longer travel commercially using sail boats, we now expect all services that benefit from Internet and Information Technology to be used by all commercial entities and government.
However, I wonder why Bahrain is not developing a mall of government offices, moving all government offices to one place?
Bahrain is a small country and it makes sense to have all the government offices in one location. The maximum distance to drive would be 11km from practically anywhere in Bahrain.
Moving all government offices to one mall would save millions of dinars per year in human resources, while citizens will save many hours of driving and parking, rent, electricity, water, traffic.
The Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry is so much more efficient since it moved to the Bahrain Financial Harbour, away from Sitra, Hidd, Manama … and wherever they were spread. Ask them, ask me, they are so much more efficient. I can only dream of all the other government entities being as smooth.
If I want silence, I only need to bring up this topic. Consolidation of government offices in one Team Bahrain mall ... then it seems as if no government employee wishes to discuss this … Why? Afraid of production being monitored too easily?
E-government and services are great, but even greater would be the Team Bahrain government mall.
This will save Bahrain millions of dinars annually; money that we can send to New York to pay our national debt of some BD14.7 billion!
Please, will our parliamentarians wake up and start addressing the root of our problems, expenses, and how to reduce them, and get out of debt?
