BAHRAIN has reiterated its commitment to support peace and security both regionally and internationally.
International strategic co-ordination is the most important way to push development, strengthen security and stability as well as combat terrorism and extremism, Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa said last night.
He was inaugurating the 17th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Regional Security Summit: The Manama Dialogue 2021 on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister.
The prestigious security summit, at Four Seasons Hotel, Bahrain Bay, is being attended by world leaders, military chiefs and experts.
Among those attending the summit in-person are US Defence Secretary Lloyd J Austin and UK National Security Adviser Sir Stephen Lovegrove.
Shaikh Mohammed noted that the global effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic demonstrated the importance of collective actions when faced with global challenges.
He welcomed participants and guests to the 2021 Manama Dialogue, held under the theme of Multilateralism and the Middle East, and added that the summit will provide a vital platform to exchange ideas and address policy issues that shape regional and international security.
The theme this year is aligned with Bahrain’s continuing efforts to promote dialogue and enhance security and stability throughout the region and further afield, Shaikh Mohammed said.
He concluded by noting the Manama Dialogue’s significant and positive influence over the past 17 years, in addressing vital topics across the fields of diplomacy, security and defence, and wished for a successful outcome for this year’s forum.
