A man in South Korea has received a three-year sentence for putting liquid bathroom cleaner into the intravenous drip line of another patient.
The reasons for the 32-year-old's actions remain unclear, although he was drunk at the time, South Korean News Agency (Yonhap) reported.
The patient complained of chest pains and the drip was changed by a nurse at the hospital.
The defendant then proceeded to repeat his actions in about an hour, prompting the hospital to launch an investigation.
He reportedly claimed that the disinfectant could clean blood vessels.
The crime was committed at a hospital in Daejeon, about 160 kilometres south of Seoul, in March last year.
The defendant has a record of previous crimes, such as breaking and entering under the influence of alcohol and leaking liquid petroleum gas in front of another person's house.
