AN exhibition highlighting Manama’s historical, geographical and economic significance has opened at Al Riwaq, displaying a collection of works by Bahraini artists Ali Merza, Hasan Hujairi, Jaffar Al Oraibi, Mariam Al Noaimi and Nasser Al Zayani.
‘Post-Fiction: Manama’ is being held as part of the Spring of Culture festival. Prompted by the relocation of Al Riwaq to Manama, the exhibition showcases different interpretations of the city and the diverse impressions it has left in Bahrain’s collective memory. Mr Merza’s work highlights old working-class jobs in Manama, Mr Hijairi presents a more existential interpretation using audio-visual media, Mr Al Oraibi uses textiles to represent the social fabric of the city, Ms Al Noaimi uses hand-drawn maps to chart the different communities within it, and Mr Al Zayani explores Yateem Centre’s place in the city’s history. The exhibition will run until April 15.
