His Majesty King Hamad yesterday issued a decree establishing Bahrain Council for Health Studies and Specialities, affiliated with the Supreme Council for Health (SCH).
The council shall supervise the establishment and evaluation of health training programmes as well as their preparation for international certification.
The council shall also oversee the evaluation of professional certificates across various health disciplines, national health programmes and the establishment of specialised training programmes.
Headed by the SCH president, the panel also includes a deputy chairperson, to be named by the SCH president.
According to the royal decree, members of the council include the chief executive of Governmental Hospitals and the chief executive of the Primary Healthcare Centres, in addition to representatives of the National Health Regulatory Authority, the SCH, the Health Ministry, BDF Hospital, King Hamad University Hospital, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain, Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain University, Mohammed Bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre and the private sector.
The chairperson, deputy chairperson and members shall be appointed as per an edict issued by the SCH president, based on the nomination of each entity for a renewable four-year term.
It is not permissible to renew the terms of more than half of the members of the same line-up of the council.
If the position of the chairperson, the deputy chairperson or one of the members becomes vacant for any reason, the person who replaces them shall be named with the same instrument, and the term of the new member shall be complementary to that of their predecessor.
