The woman at the centre of a storm, after highlighting her hijab-wearing friend being refused entry into a popular restaurant and lounge in Adliya, has posted on social media that the manager involved in the controversy was British.
She stepped into the row again to diffuse comments suggesting the incident was perhaps politically motivated and reflected concerns voiced by Muslims over issues in India.
Social media influencer Mariam Naji who boasts more than 47,000 followers on Instagram, 26,500 on YouTube and another 6,000 on Twitter, tweeted: “The truth is the manager is British, not Indian.”
In a video than has gone viral, she said she was ‘very sad about the news and rumours’ and said she has met the Indian co-owner of the restaurant, who apologised, and as far as she was concerned the case was ‘closed’.
The restaurant earlier announced that the manager involved in the incident had been suspended as internal investigations continued. The restaurant, which was closed by the authorities, reopened last night.
