Bahrain Boxing Federation (BBF) president Omar Salman Al Slaise has thrown his weight behind the GDN’s first-ever holy month community initiative by making a generous donation to our ‘Make a Child Happy’ campaign which will run throughout Ramadan, writes Adnan Sipra.
We have teamed up with the Maqabah Charitable Society, which first spearheaded the endeavour in 1998 to help collect toys, game consoles and video games to distribute to 20,000 underprivileged, orphaned or sick children as Eid Al Fitr gifts.
“This is a wonderful initiative and I feel privileged to be able to do my little bit for the cause,” Mr Al Slaise said, as he dropped off 25 brand new toys, for both boys and girls, at the GDN Press offices in East Riffa.
“My children – Salman, 15, Hia, 12, Rashed, 7, and Halah, 5, – love the initiative and insisted that we go to shop for these toys immediately when I picked them up from school, ” he said.
Mr Al Slaise said his two youngest children also wanted to send a special message.
“Rashed and Halah want all those children to remember that they are braver than they believe, smarter than they think, stronger than they seem and loved more than they’ll ever know,” he added. “And, the BBF wishes all children a blessed Ramadan.”
l GDN readers and online visitors are encouraged to help bring more smiles to the kingdom’s orphans and sick children having to spend Eid in hospital by dropping off donated gifts at the GDN’s East Riffa office or its commercial HQ on Exhibitions Avenue in Hoora.
