A horrific bus crash in Madina saw eight Egyptian and Sudanese umrah pilgrims killed, while 43 others were left injured, according to local media.
The accident occurred when the bus collided with a truck on the Al Hijrah highway in Madina, which connects Mecca to Madina.
The bus, which was travelling at 140kmh, collided with the truck in a place near the town of Al Yutamah, approximately 90 km from Madina city.
An accident report was received by the Red Crescent Authority branch in Madina at 6.14am on Friday and an operations team was able to reach the site within 10 minutes, it was revealed.
The authority's director general Ahmed Al Zahrani said a total of 51 people were on the bus, three were left seriously injured, while 10 were moderately injured.
"The condition of the remaining passengers was stable by the time medical teams arrived at the scene," he said.
"Five of the injured were taken to hospitals in the area once they had been given on-site treatment and triage by the emergency teams," he added.
Another bus carrying pilgrims overturned on April 16, during which one person died and several others were injured.
