TWO creative community groups will be sharing their love for music by staging a joint melodic symphony of sounds and song tomorrow evening.
The Manama Singers, a multi-cultural group of enthusiasts from all walks of life who perform choral works, are teaming up with the newly set-up Bahrain Chamber Orchestra, to put on a captivating concert in the American School of Bahrain’s library starting from 7pm.
“The choir is very supportive of other community arts groups in Bahrain such as the Manama Theatre Club, so we saw this as another opportunity to create a cultural/music event for Bahrain and to expand the reach of community-led music to a wider audience,” said Manama Singers musical director Jo Diciolla.
The Bahrain Chamber Orchestra was set up in the spring of this year by music teacher Scott Rogal.
“The musical community is so excited to hear of an orchestra being born again in Bahrain and we hope the event will attract new singers and players too,” added Ms Diciolla.
“We want to share our joy and passion for making music, and hope others will join us. We are already planning our next event together!”
Approximately 50 singers and instrumentalists will be performing an array of medleys including classical works from Vivaldi’s Gloria, the Hallelujah Chorus and Johann Sebastian Bach.
They will also showcase some timeless choral works such as Francesco Sartori and Lucio Quarantotto’s Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò)’ and John Rutter’s For the beauty of the earth along with some popular numbers or show tunes, including the James Bond theme and The Greatest Showman’s From Now On.
“There will be something for all musical tastes,” added Ms Diciolla, who has been conducting the choir since September 2017 when it had a mere 15 members.
“Our vision was to make music and have fun, and we certainly do which I believe has led to the growth of having now approximately 50 singers on the books at any given time.”
Tickets are BD3 and available at the door. It’s free entry for those aged under 18 and a part of the proceeds will be donated to charity.
