PEOPLE from 43 countries are expected to participate in a global conference of the World Malayalee Council (WMC) which begins in Bahrain today.
The three-day 13th Biennial Global Conference Bahrain 2022 is being held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa, Manama.
Chief guest will be Industry and Commerce Minister Zayed Alzayani and Indian Ambassador Piyush Srivastava will be guest of honour.
Other distinguished guests include Kerala Forestry Minister A K Saseendran, Indian MP E T Mohammed Basheer and Zain director Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa.
The official ceremony is at 6.30pm and will be followed by a cultural extravaganza which will include a number of entertainment performances.
Tomorrow, a medical seminar focusing on lifestyle diseases will be held from 2.45pm to 4.45pm.
All attendees will be provided with certificates and snack boxes.
The closing ceremony will be held on Saturday, at 6.30pm.
On the agenda for the evening will be a number of entertainment activities such as musical programmes, mimicry and much more.
All events are open to the public, although seating will be on first come, first served basis.
Formed on July 3, 1995, in New Jersey, the US the council is a non-sectarian, non-political community organisation providing global connectivity, friendship and fellowship among the Malayalee diaspora.
The organisation has several platforms under its umbrella for training, empowerment, service, support and charity.
WMC has a global council, six regional councils in America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, India, Far East and Australia as well as local units called provincial councils.
This is the second time the Bahrain council of the WMC is hosting the event.
The main objective of the organisation is to provide a non-political forum and bring together the widely scattered community of people who originate from Kerala and strengthen the common bonds of culture, tradition and way of life.
