Kuwait's Public Prosecution said it has launched investigations into two separate cases related to espionage and acts undermining state security.
In a statement Sunday, the Public Prosecution said the investigative team began its work in cooperation with relevant authorities, obtaining the necessary legal authorisations to apprehend the suspects and search their premises. The measures resulted in the seizure of tools and devices linked to the criminal activity.
The Public Prosecution, under the directive of Attorney General Saad Al-Safran, emphasised that the investigations are classified and prohibited the publication, broadcast, or circulation of any news, statements, or information related to these cases through any means. This is in accordance with Article 75, Paragraph 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedures and Trials, as amended by Law No. 3 of 2012.
The statement added that the Public Prosecution will inform the public and media of the investigation outcomes once they are finalised, as required by law.
As part of direct oversight of the investigations, both Attorney General Saad Al-Safran and Public Prosecutor Meshal Al-Ghanem reviewed the progress of the cases, receiving a detailed briefing from the head of the investigative team, Chief Prosecutor Talal Al-Abdulrazzaq, along with 11 members of the Public Prosecution team, regarding the investigation's procedures, work plan, and measures taken.
The statement confirmed that the Attorney General was kept updated on the investigations by the specialized team, which has begun taking the necessary legal measures to complete the process.
The Public Prosecution stressed that these acts constitute serious crimes threatening state security, subject to the severest penalties prescribed by law, and that it will continue to take all legal measures against anyone found involved, in preparation for referring the suspects to the judiciary.
