Bahrain’s national youth teams performed admirably yesterday in the 26th Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships Qualifying Tournament (West Asia), hosted by the Bahrain Table Tennis Association at the BTTA hall in Riffa.
In the men’s category, Bahrain defeated Oman 3-0, while the women opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory against Iraq.
The Bahrain youngsters notched their second victory yesterday after battling past Iraq 3-2 in ther opening encounter on Thursday. Ali Abbas defeated Oman’s Ahmed Salim 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, Salman Mohammed eased past Moaz Juma 11-1, 11-4, 11-4, while Sayid Hussein beat Mohammed Yusuf 11-6, 11-6, 11-9.
In another match, Qatar beat Palestine 3-0, with the winners comprising Abdullah Abdel Wahab, Khaled Al Yafei and Ahmed Saadawi beating Palestinian trio Abdullah Al-Maghribi, Majid Moussa and Islam Yassin.
In women’s action, Maryam Al Ali beat Iraqi Sajja Majid 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, Amruta Amit defeated Asma Ali 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, and Fatima Al-Ali won 3-2 against Rand Rami 11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5.
In the other women’s match, Syria beat Jordan 3-2.
Meanwhile, BTTA president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa received a souvenir from the Palestinian delegation as a token of appreciation.
