Bahrain International Airport recorded strong operational activity during the first five months of 2026, according to monthly aircraft movement data published on the Open Data Portal.
The airport handled a total of 59,580 flights in January, including 8,805 flights within the airport’s Flight Information Region (FIR), comprising 4,406 arrivals and 4,399 departures, in addition to 50,775 overflights.
In February, total aircraft movements stood at 50,210, including 7,195 arrivals and departures. Air traffic came to a complete halt in March due to the Iranian attacks on Bahrain and other GCC countries.
Operations resumed in April, when the airport handled 1,474 flights, including 926 arrivals and departures, before traffic rebounded sharply to 16,117 flights in May.
Passenger traffic followed a similar trend. The data showed that 933,299 passengers travelled through the airport in January, including 472,228 arrivals and 460,493 departures.
Passenger numbers fell to 705,610 in February before dropping to zero in March because of the suspension of operations. Traffic resumed in April, with 76,397 passengers, then climbed to 487,069 passengers in May.
Air cargo also reflected the impact of the disruption. Imports and mail totalled 12,472 tonnes in January and 13,079 tonnes in February before plunging to 129 tonnes in March. Volumes gradually recovered in April and May.
Export cargo reached 7,873 tonnes in January and 8,154 tonnes in February, before declining during the suspension of operations and recovering to 3,352 tonnes in May.
