A MAN has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for human trafficking and rape.
The High Criminal Court also fined him BD2,000.
Four other co-defendants were sentenced to three years in prison each, according to a Public Prosecution statement yesterday.
“The main defendant committed sexual acts with a woman without her consent, and also forced her into prostitution by threatening her,” added the statement.
“The four other defendants had all given money to the man, upon his request, in exchange for sex with the victim.”
The Public Prosecution added that it had taken the victim’s testimony into account along with the statements of the court-appointed social worker and several witnesses.
It added that a wide investigation was conducted where details of the crime were compiled in a forensic medical report.
