THOUSANDS of government schoolchildren jumped in joy as they returned to their classes yesterday for the start of the new 2022-2023 academic year after more than two years of remote education due to the pandemic.
More than 147,000 students wearing new school uniforms were greeted at the gates of their schools by teachers, administrators and faculty with roses, sweets and gifts.
In some schools they were welcomed by Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi and senior ministry officials.
Special programmes for grade one students entering mainstream education for the first time were held in the presence of parents.
