A nursery employee who appeared in a viral social media post slapping and reprimanding a young girl has been arrested.
In the video, the employee in question was heard yelling at the student and repeatedly saying: "Do you not know how to sit in the class? Tell me!"
The employee who filmed the video has also been arrested and the day-care facility closed.
“After receiving a report from Budaiya Police Station about an incident where a child was assaulted on video, the two suspects were taken into custody,” said a Public Prosecution statement.
“Both women admitted to the child abuse allegations during questioning.”
Public Prosecution added that the suspects were both employed at the nursery allegedly without having the required qualifications.
The nursery where the assault occurred also had an expired license according to prosecutors, who took a decision to close it down immediately.
“The Child Protection Centre will evaluate the young victim’s state and act according,” officials stated.
The Education Ministry also issued a statement concerning corporal punishment warning of the severe consequences any educator or administrator would face if allegations were upheld following investigations.
The Education Ministry later issued another statement, referring to a separate alleged incident where students at a primary school received physical punishment from the school’s faculty.
“This incident is currently under investigation, and the necessary procedures are being taken to deal with the responsible individuals,” it added
