BAHRAIN hosting the Arab International Cybersecurity Summit in December will greatly assist the kingdom’s ongoing digital transformation which has cybersecurity at its heart.
The convening of cybersecurity and ICT (information and communication technology) gurus from around the world will help to put Bahrain on the map of cybersecurity and promote its numerous efforts in this area.
This will include initiatives such as the ‘Cyber Trust’ programme which seeks to improve the level of information security through governance and will support technical aspects to achieve a dependable government electronic environment, with the ‘Security Hawks’ grouping, and the ‘Safe Internet’ amongst the initiatives.
It also includes the establishment of the National Cybersecurity Centre at the Interior Ministry and the launch of the National Cybersecurity Strategy.
The summit will be instrumental in addressing current, and potential, cyber threats globally, creating secure cyberspace to protect national interests and safeguarding Bahrain from cyber threats to reduce risk.
Responding promptly to cyber threats will be paramount, in addition to protecting organisations that provide essential services to the country like petroleum, electricity, water, government, and financial services.
I am optimistic that the outcomes of this summit will increase the integration of the public and private sectors within the kingdom when it comes to establishing a thorough strategy to deal with cybersecurity threats. This will ensure the implementation of the highest possible protection for the most sensitive sectors such as energy, finance, education and health.
The summit will pave the way for broader and more extensive international co-operation to tackle cyber threats, adapt capacity-building initiatives, facilitate discussions on cyber regulations and create a significant cybersecurity ‘ecosystem’ that ensures a constant source of knowledge with accompanying solutions to support a safer cyberspace.
