Several public figures have praised the Interior Ministry for its sincere efforts to reduce the overall crime rate in Bahrain by 30 per cent over the past four years.
This is part of the ministry’s continuous endeavours to maintain security and public order, and provide police and security services with dedication, professionalism, efficiency and competence, within the framework of respect for human rights and promotion of the values of tolerance and national unity as well as the spirit of loyalty, belonging and good citizenship, they said.
In statements yesterday, they said the meeting, which brought together the Interior Minister with a broad spectrum of Bahraini society and owners of majlises, represents a vivid image of national cohesion denoting His Majesty King Hamad’s far-sighted reformist vision, which includes the importance of security in promoting community partnership through direct communication between security men and members of society.
They highlighted societal awareness development in terms of compliance with legislation and laws, which clearly indicates the success of the awareness programmes provided by the official stakeholders and newspapers to spread a security culture.
They pointed to the role of penalties and alternative measures in reducing the return to crime by 33.3 pc, and the rate of breach of implementation of alternative punishments by 71.3 pc last year.
Meanwhile, Akhbar Al Khaleej Editor-in-Chief Anwar Abdulrahman hailed the efforts of the Interior Ministry to bolster community security in Bahrain.
He commended the drop in crime rate, describing it as an achievement for the country.
He praised the ministry for implementing proactive security and community strategies and using advanced methods to enforce law, maintain order and prevent and combat crimes.
