FOOTBALL – AL Khaldiya and Muharraq face off this evening in a mouth-watering clash for the Bahrain Super Cup for the 2025-26 national football season.
The Bahrain Super Cup is a match that is traditionally played ahead of the start of a new campaign, but this time it was rescheduled with the 2024-25 edition also taking place as part of this campaign.
Tonight’s contest is scheduled for a 9.30pm kick-off and it will be played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Khaldiya are competing in the one-off affair as winners of the 2024-25 His Majesty the King’s Cup, while Muharraq are appearing as champions of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League for the same season.
Khaldiya are aiming to secure the Bahrain Super Cup for the fourth straight edition, while Muharraq are hoping to win the trophy for the first time since 2018-19 and for the fifth time overall.
Both Khaldiya and Muharraq are also top contenders for the title in this campaign’s Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League, with the pair currently occupying first and second place, respectively, after matchweek 16.
Only two points separate the two sides, with Riffa a further three points behind Muharraq with just six fixtures apiece remaining.
In the previous Bahrain Super Cup held in August of last year, Khaldiya secured the trophy following a resounding 5-2 victory over Al Ahli.
