In another incident of doctors finding bizarre objects in people's stomachs, doctors in India recently removed 63 spoon handles from the stomach of a man who had become addicted to eating cutlery.
The 32-year-old patient was rushed to a hospital in Muzaffarnagar, UP after complaining of excruciating stomach pain. The man underwent a CT scans and X-rays, when doctors noticed the large collection of foreign objects lodged in his stomach. They immediately performed surgery, and took out the spoons one by one, in a procedure lasting more than two hours.
Doctors believed that the man was suffering from a psychological condition known as 'pica', where a patient has a compulsion to eat things that are not food.
Dr Rakesh Khurana, who operated on the man, said that the patient would snap off the heads of the spoons, before swallowing the handles.
