A new cybersecurity operation centre coming up at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) would help in combating increasing cyber threats and ensuring uninterrupted operations, it was announced yesterday.
Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of BIA, said it has signed an agreement with Gulf Business Machines (GBM) Bahrain to establish its Aviation Cyber Security Operation Centre (AV-CYSOC), which will advance and complement the airport’s existing security infrastructure, information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems, and network infrastructure.
Signed during the Bahrain International Airshow by BAC chief executive Mohamed Al Binfalah and GBM Bahrain general manager Abdulla Ishaq, the agreement signals the proactive implementation of the precautions being taken by the airport operator to ensure cyber risks remain under control and operations remain uninterrupted.
Early detection, followed by a quick and effective response, is essential in this ever-evolving threat landscape.
“Bolstering the security of BIA is essential for us, as BAC is committed to delivering safe, seamless, and enjoyable travel experiences,” Mr Al Binfalah.
The AV-CYSOC comes at a time when securing an organisation’s data, infrastructure, and systems is directly correlated to success.
“GBM will play a key role in supporting this by enhancing the airport’s analytics and reporting, developing resources on cybersecurity best practices and building strong proactive measures, thus protecting their digital assets and enhancing their customers experience,” said Mr Ishaq.
“As security threats across industries increase, it’s essential for organisations to have the right people, processes, and technology in place.”
GBM has supported organisations in the GCC for more than 30 years as a leading end-to-end digital solutions provider, offering a broad portfolio that includes industry-leading digital infrastructure, business solutions, security, and services.
