An online meditation session is set to be staged by the Art of Living (AOL) Bahrain tomorrow, highlighting the benefits of the practice in enhancing mental health.
Titled ‘Online Happiness Meditation’, the event follows International Day of Happiness, observed annually on March 20 to promote the importance of happiness in everyday life.
The Zoom session will be held from 7.30pm to 8pm, and participation is free and open to all.
Meditation refers to a variety of practices that focus on mind and body integration and are used to calm the mind and enhance overall well-being. Most commonly, the mental exercise involves concentrating on one’s breathing.
Several studies indicate that meditation helps reduce stress, control anxiety and support emotional health.
“We will start with some stretches or chair yoga and explain the importance and benefits of meditation techniques, which will be followed by a guided meditation in our founder Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s voice,” AOL co-ordinator Dr Bhramara Madduri told the GDN.
“In the current scenario, everyone wants peace of mind and is seeking tools to help them. Meditation is an important tool to help calm the mind and feel relaxed, rejuvenated and peaceful,” she added.
Meanwhile, AOL co-ordinator Sunita Malhotra noted that different local organisations, including schools, have been invited to participate in the event, which is open to people of all ages and from all walks of life.
The recent Iranian attacks on Gulf states, along with ongoing regional developments, have led to heightened levels of stress and anxiety among the population, according to medical and mental health experts in the kingdom. Many residents have been constantly monitoring their screens and devices to stay updated on the latest events.
The (United Nations) World Happiness Report 2026, which focuses on the correlation between happiness and social media usage, highlighted that being online for more than five hours per day is associated with lower well-being. Heavy users are significantly more likely to report higher stress and depressive symptoms compared with non-or moderate users, the report underscored.
Online Happiness Meditation is a timely event by AOL – a volunteer-based organisation with its global footprint in more than 180 countries. The platform was introduced in Bahrain 25 years ago.
As part of its social commitment, AOL Bahrain has been conducting free online meditations twice daily this month. Those interested in participating can call 39837475 or 39676617 for more details.
