BAHRAIN has unveiled a monument celebrating its women power.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women president, unveiled the milestone, called ‘Athar’.
The unveiling ceremony is part of celebrations for Bahraini Women’s Day, marked annually on December 1.
Addressing the ceremony, HRH Princess Sabeeka praised Bahraini women’s achievements and access to leading positions.
She pointed out to their long-standing patriotic stances and role in caring for their families and serving the nation.
She commended institutions and personalities for their contributions to supporting the council.
She also commended commitment of UN Women to support Bahrain’s efforts in the field of women’s advancement.
Winners of Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment are:
The Office of the Public Defender of Brazil for its national programme to confront domestic violence by expanding women’s assistance units in the state of Bahia to provide emergency protection and empower them economically and socially.
Private Sector Category: The ‘De Olivet’ company from Nigeria, which works on innovations in the field of clean energy to achieve zero waste resulting from the use of firewood as an energy source in rural neighborhoods, to raise the quality of life for women and families.
Civil Society Category: The ‘Rukungiri Foundation for the Integrated Development of Women’ from Uganda, a women’s organisation working to promote the rights and welfare of women and girls exposed to poverty and domestic violence.
Individual Category: Egyptian Nawal Sayed Mustafa Attia, an activist with a long history in the field of the rights of female prisoners and their children. She seeks through her journalistic work and individual contributions to improve their social and economic conditions.
Winners of the 7th edition of Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for Bahraini Women’s Advancement are:
- Public Sector (ministries and official bodies): The Health Ministry.
- Public Sector (Official enterprises): Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
- Private Sector (large companies): Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco).
- Medium Companies: Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat).
- Small Companies: Export Bahrain.
- Civil Society Institutions: Bahrain Diabetes Society.
- Individuals: Dr Amal Al Jowder.
Winners of the fourth edition of the Young Female Entrepreneur Honour Seal are:
- Fatima Al Ansari: For using virtual reality technologies to provide engineering designs that keep pace with the principles of sustainability and environmental preservation.
- Dr Sarra Mo’men Al Reefi, who has established a specialised centre to provide surgical and therapeutic services and early diagnosis of breast cancer in Bahrain and abroad.
- Mariam Al Mansouri: She is the owner of the first factory in Bahrain to manufacture innovative plant products.
- Dr Mai Ibrahim Matar: She established an electronic platform that provides high-quality diagnostic services for remote radiological analysis and diagnosis.
- Hessa Al Binfalah for establishing an engineering project for interior designs that is run by a Bahraini female cadre and whose designs are inspired by Bahraini architecture.
- Lulwa Al Mannai: She established a Bahraini brand to manufacture bags using natural leather.
- HRH Princess Sabeeka congratulated the winners and wished them for their future work.
